The
name of the exhibition «The Dumb City» is based on a play
of words in Russian. Written together the "íåìîé"
means “silent, dumb”, while written separately «íå
ìîé»
is translated as "not mine, alien". These variants
are indiscernible on hearing.
The
semantic origin of the name is based on long and unsuccessful
attempts of the author to determine the melody inherent
to selected pictures. Having decided, that the arising
melody will depend all the same on the spectator, the
author has left these pictures silent.
The
exhibition was on display in November, 2003 in the Volgograd
museum of the fine arts. |
